Just got back from FitBeach in Negril Jamaica.  I am trying to find the voice I lost from teaching, talking and laughing.   We had several attendees from North America but the majority of our trainees were resident pros at the resorts where we work.  We want to be sure these people are properly trained so they can fill in when we have a late cancellation and can’t cover a week.  We offer certifications and workshops with continuing education for anyone interested and a great workout for fitness enthusiasts.

 

All the presenters attend each other’s classes too and at the end of the day we relax and enjoy down time together.

The event was a success again and we will be announcing next years dates soon.  We hope to have more than one and will probably be holding training in Mexico as well.

For Fit Beach 08 the weather was certainly a factor.  A late tropical storm which finally turned into hurricane Paloma was in the area so we had constant rain.  This is very unusual for the first week of November.  Saturday I woke up to a crashing sound outside my window.  It was the sea.  If you have ever been to Jamaica before you know that the Caribbean is very calm there. 

This particular morning reminded me of a scene from an alien movie.  When I got out of bed I realized right away that the beach run I planned would be cancelled.  I walked out my door to get a cup of coffee at the pool bar at Grand Lido Negril and saw people standing with their cups in hand just staring at this strange tumultuous episode brought to us by Mother Nature.

No one was talking because the sound of the waves drowned out any words.  It was just a wave hello and an acknowledging nod of WOW this is actually pretty cool.  Then when the surge brought the water all the way into my room I knew the hotel staff probably didn’t find it as cool as I did.

The following day the beach was littered with piles of seaweed and other things that managed to be thrown up on the shore.  It made for an adventure run complete with trying to get away from the waves to keep the feet dry (didn’t succeed there by the way) jumping over and around the seaweed and getting chased by a security guard when I tried to run through a resort instead of on the beachfront.   He didn’t catch me.

 

So back to my desk in cold Kentucky working on the new resorts we have acquired and we will soon be making an announcement regarding more options in Mexico and Jamaica.
