Well I am back home finally from a 10 day trip to Palm Springs.  As it so happens, I had three events back to back at this beautiful desert oasis.

Part one was the first official training session for the BEAMfit master team.  This was held downtown Palm Springs.  David Mesirow, the founder, is a long time friend of mine and his new program is amazing.  Equally amazing is the team he has brought together to introduce it to the rest of the world.  It was a virtual Who’s Who of the fitness arena all there together in a room full of BEAMS.  We spent 8 hours each for 2 days exploring the new product, following the extensive manual and doing the BEAMfit fundamentals.  We studied the Beamfit philosophies and all learned about the benefits of going barefoot,  balance challenges and more. The Beam is 5 feet long and 6 inches wide and only a few inches off the ground, but no one wants to fall off!  Just when we thought we were getting the hang of it, David had us close our eyes.  The program is relaxing and intense at the same time.  Before you know it you are feeling sweat trickle down your back.  Check it out at www.beamfit.com and tell David I sent you!

Part two of my little road trip was Inner Idea.  I traded my beam for my yoga mat and Fit Bodies Inc, VP, Denise Cox and I headed out to the gorgeous La Quinta resort.

Not since the early days of World IDEA have we been fed at a conference.  Each day they had breakfast on the lawn for us.  There was a silent section which I thought was weird.  Ok, who wants to sit at a table full of people you have something in common with and not talk to them?  Well obviously not me.  Then they had lunch every day with one being a hosted banquet with a speaker.  This conference is intended to be a very small group so it was an  intimate affair.  It was really easy to meet new friends and speak casually with the presenters and directors of the event.  The owners of IDEA, Peter and Kathie Davis were always at breakfast and lunch and walking around to the sessions as if they were just another attendee.

Even though I have been trained to teach yoga, I prefer to be in the class instead and have been practicing Ashtanga for over 10 years.  I tried gyrotonics, worked out on the reformer and walking on stones but mainly I stuck with the yoga classes. I did check out some metabolism seminars taught by my good friend Len Kravitz.   Nothing new really, but I love to hear him get excited about mitochondria.

Sunday, all the yogis left and the tennis pros started showing up.  Phase three of my trip was the USPTA Tennis conference held at the same place the very day after Inner Idea.  Denise and I spent 4 days talking with the tennis pros and USPTA executives and had a booth at the trade show on Thursday that week.  We were very well positioned by the bar and the food.

It was great to say hello to some of our pros who have traveled already and introduce our program to those who didn’t know about it.  I had a long conversation with one of the executives about the benefits of yoga for the tennis pro.  These coaches all have visible imbalances because of the constant ball feeding and serving action all done with the same arm while the other one just hangs there.  I will be submitting an article about it in the USPTA magazine at the request of the director.

I have to add something here about my morning runs.  Wow – I left the resort and headed up towards the Santa Rosa mountain range.    It was a paved trail but had a gravel shoulder so I alternated between the two surfaces.  The first day I found the trailhead for the actual mountain trails and drooled.  Denise is recovering from knee surgery so I promised we would walk.  What she didn’t bargain for was the steep rocky trail we started up.  After reaching the top we realized going up was much easier than it would be heading down.  We made it but stuck to the wider rollers instead of the steep rocks for the rest of the hike.  I was also on the lookout for rattlesnakes.  I know I could beat the Kenyans if I saw one of those on the trail.  Gladly there were no sightings.  I met lots of new friends – most had 4 legs and a wagging tail.  The owners of all the dogs were nice too.  I bid a sad farewell to a few of them as I ran the last day I was there but I was looking forward to seeing my own dogs, Maynard and Marley when I finally made it home on Friday.  Oh and the rest of my family too.

Next trip is coming up soon.  Larry and I are heading to Jamaica to attend the Best of Jamaica at Braco Grand Lido and the anniversary party at Couples Swept Away.  We will also be putting the finishing touches on FitBeach being held Nov 4-8 in Negril.  If you haven’t signed up yet, now is the time.  Get your cecs, certifications or just come workout with us.  Check it all out at www.fit-beach.com .

Bye for now  -   I will send you highlights of the next trip when I write again.

Love,
